I tend to work with CEOs and their teams when they are thinking about what comes next and how they want to grow into it.

Over the years I have come to appreciate how few places there are where people in senior positions can simply think well, in private. Somewhere to explore an idea, talk through an important decision, rehearse a difficult conversation, consider the dynamics of a relationship or make sense of something that doesn’t yet have a name.

That is the space I try to offer.

Whatever brings someone to leadership coaching, we begin there. We slow things down and look carefully at what is happening. Like a snow globe, once the movement settles, what has been there all along comes into focus, making the next step easier to take.

Sometimes we spend our time thinking about the business. Sometimes the team. Sometimes a relationship that has become strained, or a decision that has been sitting quietly in the background for longer than it should.

Clients often tell me they trust me quickly and can say things with me they haven’t said elsewhere. I tend to notice what is happening in the room, including what has not yet been said. One client described our work like this: “You let people work out who they are, how they operate and what they are best at, and that’s not easy to do.”

Before establishing Evident, I spent nineteen years at Schillings, becoming a Partner, Chief Operating Officer and a member of both the Board and Executive Committee. It was a formative part of my life. I learned a great deal about leadership, about relationships and about the responsibility that comes with making decisions that affect other people. Those experiences continue to shape the way I work today.

I grew up in West Yorkshire and still favour plain speaking. Outside work I enjoy walking, gardening, making pottery and spending time in London’s galleries and theatres. They all ask the same thing of me: to slow down, pay attention and notice what is there.
